Minister Baksh to commission new bridge in South Trinidad

General NewsThe Honourable Nizam Baksh, Minister of Community Development, through the National Commission for Self Help (NCSH) will formally open a new bridge at Garth Road, Williamsville (near the Iere Village Branch Road junction), on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 4:00 pm. The long-awaited bridge will bring great relief to a highly flood-prone area and is expected to dramatically improve life for the villagers.

The NCSH falls under purview of the Ministry of Community Development. It was established by the Cabinet of the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago on April 7, 1987and was registered as a state-owned Company on April 14, 1997.

The idea of self-help is to encourage communities to rely on locally available resources.

Objectives:

To provide communities with infrastructural amenities.

To educate communities on the values of self-help and self-reliance.

The NCSH targets:

senior citizens
victims of natural disaster
fire victims
low income single parent households
socially displaced families
persons on public assistance or disability grant
