Ministry of Community Development hosts Parang Show on Brian Lara Promenade

General NewsThe Best Village Unit of the Ministry of Community Development, under the auspices of the Honourable Nizam Baksh, Minister of Community Development, today hosted its first ever “Parang On D’Promenade” between Chacon and Abercromby Streets in Port of Spain. The Show began promptly at 3:00 pm as began as all were invited to join the Ministry in its effort to entertain the public while promoting its programmes and services.

At the front of the main stage area, a display booth which highlighted the various programmes and services was mounted for public information and while spectators visited the booth, staff of the Ministry was on hand to provide necessary information and answers to the many questions asked by the general public.

The entertainment began as Junior Parang Champions for 2010 - Los Ninos Del Este graced the stage and delivered a total of ten pieces which included some well articulated Aguinaldos. Performing right after was popular parang artiste - Baron who gave some crowd-pleasers which encouraged members of the audience to dance.

After Baron's performance, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry, Hermia Tyson-Cuffie brought greeting on behalf of the Minister and Permanent Secretary. Tyson-Cuffie stated that this was just one in the many public interventions which will be made by the Ministry as it seeks to create public awareness about how to access many of the Ministry’s programmes and Services. She also encouraged all to participate fully by getting information from the booth as well as partaking in the entertainment provided. She concluded by wishing all Christmas blessings and prosperity for the New Year – 2011.

The next performance was by Scrunter who encouraged all to come forward and sing along with him to some of his popular Parang pieces as he engaged some members of the audience in a dance demonstration of the salsa.

Topping off the Programme was Alicia Jagessar and the members of her band Los Alumnos de San Juan. As the reigning eight-time National Parang Champions performed, members of the public were seen chipping, singing and dancing to the many renditions which were offered.

The Best Village Unit of the Ministry of Community Development then thanked all who participated and contributed towards the success of the event and wished all a safe journey home.
