Minister Baksh lauds ASJA

At the Haji Ruknudeen Institute's annual fundraising event last night (Saturday, March 27, 2011) in Chaguanas, the Honourable Nizam Baksh, Minister of Community Development, praised the Anjuman-Sunnatul Jamaat Association for the role its has played in national development over the years. The Haji Ruknudeen Institute for Islamic Studies of Trinidad and Tobago is responsible for training young imams as well as overseeing the ASJA schools and colleges.
"Your organisation complements the community development concept," he said. "In addition to improving the social and economic condition, community development should improve individuals' moral and religious condition. The Haji Ruknudeen Institute has played a tremendous role in the area of comprehensive community development," he told a full auditorium at the ASJA Girls College.
ASJA has educated countless numbers of primary and secondary school students, he said.
"Past pupils from ASJA schools and colleges can be found in every strata of society and have generously contributed to the development of our nation," Minister Baksh said. "A sound education is one of the definite ways to improve social and economic opportunities for individuals. Our national agenda stresses the importance of people development and your ASJA schools and colleges have been pivotal in achieving people-centred development."
The Minister also called on the Haji Ruknudeen Institute to apply for funding from the Ministry of Community Development, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Tertiary Education.
