Community Development Ministry to mark “Mediation Week”

The Mediation Division of the Ministry of Community Development will host a Community Outreach at the Central Main Mediation Centre in Warrenville, Cunupia on Wednesday November 9, 2011 at 1:30 pm, as part of “Mediation Week” to be observed from Saturday November 5 to Friday November 11, 2011.
Minister of Community Development, the Honourable Nizam Baksh is scheduled to attend the outreach and deliver the feature address. The theme for this event is “Building Confidence in Mediation in Trinidad and Tobago.”
The week of activities highlighting the work of the Division will be launched with an Interfaith Service at the Aramalaya Presbyterian Church in Tunapuna at 4:00 pm on November 5, 2011.
“Mediation Week” is being formally presented by the Mediation Board of Trinidad and Tobago, a corporate body established by the Mediation Act 2004. The Board performs and exercises various regulatory functions and powers under the Act which includes: Formulating standards for the accreditation of, and accrediting mediation training programmes, mediators and mediation trainers.
As a matter of policy the Mediation Board envisages creating a vibrant culture for mediation in Trinidad and Tobago where disputes and conflicts at every level of our society can be resolved peacefully through mediation.
