The Dominican Republic will engage 22 Taiwanese experts to train Dominican shoemakers, Minister in the Office of the President José Ramón Peralta told the media two days ago.
Some 22 shoe manufacturers are based in the Dominican Republic's free trade zone where they employ 13,500 persons. An estimated 30,000 persons are needed to work in the shoe industry if it is to sustain its pace of growth.
Dominican shoe manufacturers export mainly to the US and Europe.
