C&B T&T Finals now in Victoria East

The Prime Minister’s Best Village Trophy Competition’s “Clean and Beautify T&T” finals will continue on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 and Thursday July 21, 2011 in the county of Victoria East.

Village councils, community groups and individuals will compete for prizes in the following categories:

- Best Flower Garden
- Best Community Centre/Meeting Place
- Best Kitchen Garden
- Environmental Education Programme
- Best Clean and Green Area
- Best Kept Block
- Best Street
- Best Local Heritage/Structure
- Overall Beautification

Minister Baksh to address 41 constituencies’ staff on Self Help

Community Development Minister Nizam Baksh will address the National Commission for Self-Help Limited’s training seminar for the staff of Trinidad and Tobago’s 41 constituency offices on Wednesday (July 20, 2011) at the Centre of Excellence in Macoya.

The constituency offices of the 41 Members of Parliament were invited to nominate two representatives to attend a training seminar on the Minor Repair Reconstruction Grant, which is often accessed by natural disaster victims.

The Project Management Department of the NCSHL, which will conduct the training session, will also expound on Community Infrastructural Development Applications, and other programmes of the state-owned company, for which Community Development is the line Ministry.

Attendees of the seminar, which will take place from 9:00 am to 11:30 am at the Ken Galt Hall, Centre of Excellence, Macoya, will be provided with information on the criteria, qualification and approval processes of the NCSHL.

As Minister with portfolio responsibility for the NCSHL, Minister Baksh will deliver the feature address during a brief opening ceremony.

Freak storm victims receive repair grants



Minister of Community Development Nizam Baksh is flanked by 14 victims of a freak storm that ravaged several homes in south Trinidad last week. On Friday, July 15, 2011, from his constituency office, Minister Baksh handed out $10,000 in purchase orders redeemable at hardware stores, to each of the victims of last week's storm.
