The National Commission for Self-Help Limited will hand out 250 Minor Repairs and Reconstruction Grants to flood victims in the Siparia constituency of Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on Tuesday December 21, 2010 at 11:30 am.
Community Development Minister, the Honourable Nizam Baksh will attend the ceremony at the constituency office, where he will deliver the feature address and give out the grants, valued at $3 million. The NCSH will also distribute 60 food hampers each valued at $300, to needy families in the area.
It is the second of three grant distribution ceremonies hosted by the NCSH. The first was held at the Divali Nagar site in Chaguanas on Friday December 17, 2010, when 300 grants were handed out. The final event is tentatively carded for early January 2011 in Tobago, where 60 grants will be distributed in addition to 20 food hampers.
Through the Minor Repairs and Reconstruction Grant, the Community Development Ministry, through the NCSH has been able to bring relief to families across Trinidad and Tobago within seven days in instances of damage to homes after a natural disaster. In the past, applicants had to wait several months for assistance.
